MOVE Plus - NCS, Dubai

In beginning of the school year in September, the MOVE Plus program was launched at the National Charity School in Dubai for 230 eleventh grade students, ages 15 to 17 years. The MOVE (Motivational Empowerment program) is an interactive training program designed to instill in attendees a sense of civic responsibility, as well as empower them with the skills needed to become team-builders, communicators, goal-setters and achievers which, in turn enhances their career development as these high school students move into the working world or enter higher education. The MOVE also focuses on imparting training that will equip attendees with the skills needed to organize and support social initiatives, and have a positive impact in their community.

The students will benefit from a 40 minute class on Wednesday each week of the school year. Each class is designed around a theme to provide training in life skills, as well as opportunities for students to communicate in an English environment.

I must start by saying that I was very hesitant to participate and be a volunteer as I have never been involved in something like this. But doing so has totally changed my thinking. It opened my eyes to see that it was fun being surrounded by children who are so enthusiastic in wanting to learn so much more of not just a language but also interacting with us, all from totally different cultures and background. Yes, I am so glad that I did volunteer, even if I have not made a great impact on their lives, they definitely left me walking out that night with a smile on my face and sweet memories that I will carry with me for a long time. Thank you Action Care for giving me this opportunity.
